About Mielieland
Mielieland is a premier bowls tournament on the South African calendar, which will reach the milestone of 40 years in 2023. The tournament was the brainchild of Koos Roos, Piet van Vuuren, Koos Smit and Dot Smit. In its first year it had 58 competing teams (men and ladies separately), which would grow into a whopping 118 competing teams playing across the four clubs that Potchefstroom was boasting at the time. Sadly, several of these clubs closed down over the years, remaining with only Potchefstroom Town Club and Potchefstroom Country Club (PCC), the headquarters, as venues.
Over the past five years there have been 48 mixed teams battling it out for the coveted Mielieland trophy and prize money. Teams enjoy having their own identify and it is quite exciting to see flashy team colours and shirts being displayed on the greens.
Unfortunately, as most of the country’s during the COVID-19 pandemic was affected, the tournament could not take place during 2020, but participants were back in their numbers for the next round in 2021 and the tournament has been going strong again eversince.
Over the past two years we have had the following winning teams:

Put your team together of any four for a lovely two full days of play on both Friday, 6 October 2023 and Saturday, 7 October 2023. Lunch will be provided at the respective venues of play on these.
We will also be having a “lekker gesellige“ get together at PCC on Saturday evening, which is usually the highlight of the weekend, whereby all teams get to meet each other and have a great time at the evening’s braai and musical entertainment. Meat packs are available to buy and side dishes will be provided by club.
The final games of play on Sunday, 8 October 2023 will determine the top teams competing for the coveted prize money.
